Life always gives you a purpose. And for Jean Baptiste Bettencourt, founder of MAG The Women Gallery, that purpose was always clear.
From a young age, he witnessed firsthand how his mother had to set aside her creative work to support her husband’s career. Perhaps he found it unfair, or perhaps he simply recognized, within the walls of his own home, a great artist who chose to keep her creative talent in the shadows.
But one thing was certain, this experience ignited a vision: a commitment to giving visibility and recognition to women artists worldwide.
Family, Collection, and Realization: The story of a young boy who grew up surrounded by art
As the son of two artists, Mónique Apple and Pierre Bettencourt, art played a central role in the life of Jean-Baptiste Bettencourt, he understood from young age that the art world was a predominantly male-dominated world, where women were often invisible.
From an early age, he became aware of the gender imbalance, witnessing how his mother had to set aside her own creative work to support his father’s career. This experience shaped him, and over the years, it led him to a profound realization: the need to create an art gallery dedicated to showcasing female talent, giving visibility and recognition to women artists.
Perhaps it was driven by a sense of injustice and a desire for change. And so, MAG The Women Gallery was born, a space dedicated to highlighting the works of female artists who, even today, often remain unseen in the art world.
The mission of promote women artists worldwide:
Our primary mission is to discover, highlight, and promote the work of women artists worldwide, providing them with the visibility they have not always received in traditional art circuits.
At MAG The Women Gallery, we break down geographical and institutional barriers, enabling a broad audience of art enthusiasts, collectors, and professionals to engage with female talent that is often overlooked or underrepresented. We showcase a diverse range of artistic expressions, from emerging artists to established creators and offering them a platform to share their work, stories, and artistic visions.
Beyond exhibitions, we are committed to fostering a space for dialogue and recognition by organizing virtual events, collaborations, and supporting initiatives that promote greater representation of women in the art world.
Each woman artist tells a different story:
Each artist we showcase contributes, in her own way, to rewrite the history of art with full diversity and richness. Each artist we showcase has a fascinating story and a unique sensitivity.

Through their work, they question, denounce, and reinterpret narratives that have long been dominated by male-centric perspectives. Their resilience and ability to express themselves despite these challenges are a constant source of inspiration.
